Job Title: Fraud Prevention Assistant – Employees of the Mission All/or USEFMs, EFMs, MOHs (Consular Investigations Assistant)

Summary

  • The U.S. Consulate Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for two (2) Fraud Prevention Assistant positions in the Consular Section.

Duties

  • The incumbent will perform wide-ranging anti-fraud investigations in support of consular operations, including document analysis, phone and in-person interviews, verification of documents and case details with government officials, and site visits.
  • Investigations primarily focus on analysis of facts to support fraud determinations that can affect whether an applicant is eligible for a citizenship or an immigration benefit.
  • The position requires a high-level of independent judgment and decision-making and careful protection of sensitive information.
  • On a daily basis, the incumbent must distill complex investigations into succinct summaries of fact that consular officers use in forming case adjudications and drafting denial and revocation memos.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • A University Degree in any of the following: Law, Psychology, Forensics, Economics, or Criminology is required.
  • NYSC Certificate or Exemption document is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of four (4) years’ work experience as an investigator or researcher for the police, court, law firm, insurance company, government or private agency is required.

Requirements:

  • All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a public trust clearance.
  • All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
  • Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

  • Ability to work calmly and professionally while dealing with contacts and applicants, to gain confidence of others, and to draft sensitive documents is required.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to summarize complex information quickly and succinctly in writing is required.

Summary

  • The U.S. Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for two (2) Non-Immigrant/Immigrant Visa Assistant positions in the Consular Office.

Duties

  • The Visa Assistant (NIV/IV) performs a wide range of consular duties associated with delivering nonimmigrant visa (NIV) and immigrant visa (IV) services, in accordance with the Consular Section’s standard operating procedures and established visa processing guidelines.
  • Incumbent performs data-entry, document review, correspondence, passport manifesting, visa printing, and other general office work.
  • Customer service focus is essential in a Consular Section that addresses a diverse range of applicants in person and via correspondence daily.
  • The position requires a high-level attention to detail to ensure case meet documentary requirements, as well as to spot trends or potential issues and escalate those as necessary.
  • The job holder is fully cross trained to function in any role as required by visa demand and scheduling.

Qualifications and Evaluations

  • Completion of two years of college or university studies is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact, customer service, or problem-solving experience is required.

  • Must have good skills for drafting written correspondence in both English and local language.
  • Must be able to apply good judgment in evaluating evidence, protecting sensitive information, and applying regulations correctly

Language:
