Location: Edo, Lagos & Rivers

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and professionally responsible Guidance & Counselling Officer to provide emotional, academic, career, behavioral, and personal support to teenagers.
The ideal candidate should have strong counselling and communication skills, a good understanding of adolescent development, and the ability to build trust with young people while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and group counselling sessions to teenagers on academic, emotional, social, behavioral, and personal matters.
Assess students’ needs and develop appropriate support and intervention plans.
Provide academic and career guidance to help teenagers make informed decisions about their education and future careers.
Identify students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social difficulties and provide appropriate counselling or referrals.
Develop and facilitate programs on self-esteem, leadership, study skills, emotional intelligence, communication, and life skills.
Work closely with parents, teachers, school management, and other relevant stakeholders to support students’ development.
Monitor students’ progress and maintain accurate and confidential counselling records.
Handle sensitive situations professionally and escalate serious concerns to the appropriate authority when necessary.
Promote a safe, supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment for teenagers.
Prepare counselling reports and provide recommendations based on observed student needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance & Counselling, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
3–5 years’ experience in counselling, mentoring, youth development, or a related role.
Professional certification or membership with a recognized counselling/psychology association is an added advantage.
Strong understanding of adolescent development and teenage behavioural issues.
Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
Strong empathy, patience, emotional intelligence, and conflict-resolution abilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
Experience in career guidance, mentoring, life-skills training, or youth development is an added advantage.
Good report-writing and documentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work effectively with teenagers, parents, teachers, and management.
