The six-month program, in partnership with the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, trained youths and women from Oju Local Government Area on fish production, farm management, water quality management, and agribusiness development.
The President of Shield Africa Sustainability and Development Initiative, Mrs. Osenaga Orokpo, while addressing the audience at the programme’s graduation ceremony, explained that the academy was set up to empower the participants with the requisite entrepreneurial skills to generate wealth, create employment, and impact their communities through sustainable agriculture.
She was represented by the organisation’s Head of Operations, Mr. Prince Umobuarie, who urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the knowledge they gained in the academy to transform their lives, create jobs, and improve food security in their communities.
To support them launch their business ventures, the organisation gave the beneficiaries start-up grants and fingerlings for fish farming.
The participants described the intervention as extremely inspiring and pledged to impact their communities by using the knowledge and support acquired from the academy to build profitable fish farming ventures.
