Apply for CHINNOVA Small Grants for Climate and Health Innovation in West and Central African

The Association of African Universities (AAU) has recently unveiled an exciting opportunity for research institutions, NGOs, and consortia focusing on the critical intersection of climate change and public health. The CHINNOVA Small Grants program is dedicated to supporting innovative and evidence-based research that bolsters the resilience of health systems in West and Central Africa.

With funding of up to $70,000 per project, this initiative has the potential to empower African researchers and institutions to transform ambitious climate-health concepts into tangible outcomes.

Africa is currently grappling with a mounting health emergency exacerbated by escalating temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and food insecurity. Despite these pressing challenges, there is a noticeable lack of funding for research that addresses the intricate relationship between climate and health.

Established in 2024 as part of the Advancing Research for Climate and Health (ARCH) initiative, CHINNOVA (Climate Change and Health Innovation Hub for West and Central Africa) is determined to fill this gap. Through its emphasis on collaborative, gender-inclusive, and interdisciplinary research, the program aims to assist local scientists, universities, and community partners in developing tailored solutions that resonate with the unique realities of Africa.
