Role Overview

The Lecturer in Politics & Technology will support expanding teaching and research activities, particularly within:

  • MSc Global Affairs
  • New BA International Politics and Technology (launching from 2028)

The role involves delivering high-quality teaching, conducting impactful research, and contributing to curriculum development with a focus on the political economy of technology, particularly in the Global South and India.

This is a full-time (35 hours/week) position with an indefinite contract, subject to a standard probation period (typically three years).

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Deliver core modules such as:
    • Introduction to Global Affairs
    • Introduction to Research Methods
  • Develop and teach new undergraduate modules on politics and technology
  • Integrate quantitative and AI-based methods into teaching
  • Support inclusive and student-centred learning environments

Research and Academic Contribution

  • Conduct high-quality research on the political economy of technology
  • Focus on themes such as development, governance, and innovation in the Global South
  • Publish in leading academic outlets and secure research funding
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives

Programme Development

  • Support the design and rollout of the BA International Politics and Technology
  • Contribute to methods training across programmes
  • Collaborate across departments and institutes

Academic Service and Collaboration

  • Participate in administrative and departmental responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams
  • Engage in public and policy-facing activities where relevant

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • PhD in a relevant social science or related discipline
  • Expertise in the political economy of technology, particularly in India and the Global South
  • Strong publication record and research potential
  • Advanced skills in quantitative and/or qualitative methods, including AI or machine learning
  • Proven ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student support
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary and collaborative environments

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience securing research grants
  • Advanced quantitative research expertise
  • Experience designing or teaching modules on technology and politics
