DAAD 2026/2027 In-Country/In-Region Master’s Scholarship Programme for Sub-Saharan African Students

Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 DAAD In-Country/In-Region Master’s Scholarship Programme. This initiative is designed to strengthen internationally oriented higher education systems across Sub-Saharan Africa, equipping them to drive sustainable development. The programme provides scholarships for development-focused Master’s studies to candidates aspiring to build careers in teaching and/or research within higher education institutions in the region.

Requirements

  • Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme who want to pursue Master’s degrees in their home country or in the country for which they have a residence permit (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country, outside their home country/in the country for which they do not have a residence permit (so called In-Region scholarships).
  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply for funding.

Supported Programs

  • Master studies in selected, development-related degree programmes

Funding Duration

  • Funding is provided for the regular duration of a course – generally, up to two years.
