The RMTP is a comprehensive training program spanning over three weeks, designed to improve both technical and managerial capabilities within the rice value chain. Participants will engage in a seven-month training period, divided into three separate sessions. In between these sessions, participants will be given “intersession assignments” to apply the knowledge gained. The program covers a wide range of topics crucial to the sector, blending theoretical understanding with practical experience. Key areas of focus in this inaugural edition include:
– Sustainable Rice Cultivation: Participants will learn advanced techniques to increase productivity while maintaining sustainability.
– Post-Harvest Management: Insights will be provided on methods to enhance the quality of rice products after harvest.
– Milling and Value Addition: Strategies to optimize milling operations and add value to rice products will be explored.
– Gender-Inclusive Approaches: The importance of inclusivity and the promotion of gender-transformative practices in the rice value chain will be emphasized.
– Soft Skills Development: Participants will sharpen their facilitation, communication, leadership, and knowledge-sharing skills to become effective experts in the rice industry.
The program is open to individuals working in the public and private sectors, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), development partners, and institutions promoting the rice value chain in Africa and beyond. Applicants must be officially endorsed by their host institution and will undergo a transparent selection process based on specific criteria. Professionals from the ECOWAS region and beyond are encouraged to apply.
Participants in the RMTP will benefit from cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills that can be directly applied to their work in the rice sector. The program is ideal for farmers, agricultural consultants, processors, and value chain managers in both the public and private sectors. In addition to deepening their understanding of the rice value chain, participants will have the opportunity to network with other experts, fostering regional collaboration and innovation.
