Applications are now open for the 2027 Chevening UK Government Scholarships, offering exceptional emerging leaders from around the world the opportunity to study for a fully funded one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

The Chevening Scholarship is aimed at individuals who have the leadership potential, vision, and determination to make a positive impact and tackle important challenges at the local, national, or global level.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to advance their academic and professional careers, build a valuable international network, experience life and culture in the UK, and develop lasting connections with fellow scholars and future leaders from around the world.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • Commit to returning to their home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
  • Have at least two years of work experience acquired after completing an undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for admission to a UK master’s programme.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses.
  • Receive an unconditional offer from at least one of their selected courses by the required deadline.

Scholarship Benefits

Chevening is a fully funded scholarship, allowing recipients to focus on their studies and professional development without the financial burden of studying abroad.

The scholarship includes:

  • Full payment of tuition fees.
  • Economy-class return travel to and from the scholar’s country of residence via an approved route.
  • Arrival allowance.
  • Visa application fee for the scholar.
  • Departure allowance.
  • Contribution of up to £75 towards TB testing, where required.
  • Travel top-up allowance.
  • Monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The amount depends on whether the scholar studies inside or outside London and is subject to annual review.
  • Access to a tailored engagement programme with opportunities to network with fellow scholars, alumni, the FCDO, high-profile speakers, and partner organisations.

Application Timeline

  • 4 August 2026: Applications open at 11:00 UTC.
  • 6 October 2026: Applications close at 11:00 UTC.
  • From October 2026: Applications are assessed against eligibility criteria.
  • Mid-October 2026 – January 2027: Eligible applications are assessed by independent reading committees.
  • Mid-February 2027: Applicants shortlisted for interviews are announced.
  • March – April 2027: Interviews take place at British embassies and high commissions around the world.
  • Mid-June 2027: Scholarship results are announced.
  • 8 July 2027: Successful candidates must submit an unconditional offer from at least one UK university by 17:00 BST.
  • September/October 2027: 2027–28 Chevening Scholars begin their studies in the UK.
