Nigerian Government set to Empower 150,000 Youths with Vocational Skills Training

The Nigerian government has unveiled a new initiative to empower and educate young people in vocational skills, with plans to train between 125,000 and 150,000 youths in the upcoming phase of the program. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, shared this exciting news during the launch of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Communication Strategy (2025–2027) in Abuja.

Dr. Alausa highlighted the importance of providing free technical education to students, covering all expenses such as tuition, boarding, feeding, and even a monthly stipend of N22,500 to support trainees financially. This initiative aims to break down barriers and equip young individuals with the necessary skills to secure employment opportunities.

The Minister also mentioned the successful launch of a digital platform for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which has already attracted over 1.3 million applicants. With 1,600 accredited centers on boarded and 58,000 students already matched to training facilities nationwide, the program is set to make a significant impact in the coming years.

In addition to vocational training, the government has been actively investing in the education sector, with the construction of over 4,900 classrooms, renovation of 3,000 facilities, and the establishment of 34 model and SMART schools benefiting 2.3 million learners across the country.

Dr. Alausa also revealed plans to reintroduce the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, emphasizing the importance of ensuring children are well-fed and implementing measures for transparency and accountability in the process.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing communication within the education sector through the new Communication Strategy, which aims to streamline messaging, promote transparency, and engage stakeholders effectively for the betterment of education in Nigeria.
