Nigerian Government Offers N45,000 Monthly Stipend to Technical College Students

The government has recently announced a new initiative to support students in technical colleges across Nigeria by providing a monthly stipend of N45,000. The goal is to spark interest in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and to give young people the opportunity to gain practical skills for future employment.

The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) shared this exciting news in Abuja, emphasizing that this initiative is part of a larger effort to revitalize technical education in the country. He believes that by offering financial support to students, technical colleges will become more appealing and accessible to the youth, ultimately bridging the gap between education and employment opportunities.

“This is a new beginning for the TVET sector,” he expressed. “In the past, technical education was highly valued, but over the years, it has faced a decline. With only 129 technical colleges compared to thousands of secondary schools, there is a clear disparity in the education system.”

The N45,000 stipend is a gift, not a loan, and students are not required to repay it. The aim is to inspire more young Nigerians to consider pursuing technical education and to equip them with the skills needed to succeed in both local and international job markets.

“We hope that this support will encourage a new generation of skilled professionals in Nigeria,” he concluded.
