The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has recently introduced the ECOWAS Young Graduates Immersion Internship Programme 2026. This initiative is designed to provide young graduates from ECOWAS member states with a unique opportunity to gain practical work experience within ECOWAS institutions.

The primary goal of this internship is to support the professional development of young graduates by offering them firsthand exposure to ECOWAS projects and enabling them to actively contribute to the successful execution of its initiatives.

About ECOWAS

ECOWAS, also referred to as CEDEAO in French, is a regional organization that brings together 15 countries in West Africa. Collectively, these nations encompass a total land area of approximately 5,114,162 km² and had a combined population exceeding 349 million as of 2015.

Internship Requirements

In order to qualify for the ECOWAS Young Graduates Immersion Internship Programme 2026, candidates must satisfy specific eligibility requirements:

  • Be a young graduate from an ECOWAS member state.
  • Be aged 32 years or younger.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent certificate.
  • Be available to work full-time throughout the program duration.

Program Benefits

Successful applicants will enjoy the following benefits during the internship:

  • The internship lasts for 12 months maximum (non-renewable).
  • Placements will take place in ECOWAS Departments, Agencies, Resident Representations, and Institutions.
  • At the end of the program, interns must submit a comprehensive report in three copies (to DHAS, the host department, and themselves).
  • The program will be conducted physically. However, online participation in information or feedback meetings is possible for those not residing in Abuja.

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare the following documents before applying:

  1. A request letter addressed to the ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs. The letter must state your motivation, areas of interest, preferred profile, desired location, and your commitment to follow program rules.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) in PDF format.
  3. national identity card or passport (PDF or JPEG).
  4. Copies of academic certificates (PDF).

Note: Applicants can apply for a maximum of two positions only.

Application Process

Here’s how to apply for the 2026 ECOWAS Young Graduates Immersion Internship Programme:

  • Review the available positions defined by ECOWAS Departments and host structures.
  • Apply for positions that match your profile and interests.
  • A Technical Selection Committee will review applications.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

There are 80 internship positions available for 2026.
