Exciting news for families worldwide: Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is reopening for the 2025 intake, bringing hope and joy to many. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin issuing invitations on July 28, 2025.
Over the course of two weeks, up to 10,000 applicants will have the opportunity to submit sponsorship applications to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada as permanent residents.

Were You in the 2020 Pool? It’s Time to Check Your Email!
This year, IRCC will not be accepting new interest-to-sponsor forms. Instead, invitations will be extended to those who submitted forms in 2020 and have yet to receive an invitation. If you applied during that time, be sure to check your inbox, including your spam or junk folders, as your invitation may be waiting for you there.
How to Apply if Invited?
Selected potential sponsors will have the option to submit their full application electronically through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, depending on their circumstances. The application process has been simplified and digitized for ease of use.
What If You’re Not Invited This Year?
For those who are not invited this time, there is still the option of the Super Visa, which allows for multiple entries over a period of up to 10 years. Super Visa holders can stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time, with the possibility of extending their stay for an additional 2 years without leaving the country.
The Super Visa is a family-friendly choice for long-term visits, especially for those who are not selected in the PGP draw.
Why This Matters?
Family reunification is a fundamental principle in Canadian immigration policy, and the Parents and Grandparents Program continues to be a highly anticipated pathway for keeping families united. If you dream of having your parents or grandparents live with you in Canada permanently, this is a significant opportunity.
