The Lab for Ethics, Policy and Scaling of AI (LEPSAI) at the African Center for Technology Studies (ACTS) is reaching out to AI innovators who are passionate about making a positive impact in their communities.

Our goal is to support AI solutions that are not only innovative but also ready to be scaled up to reach a wider audience. We are looking for projects that have moved beyond the initial concept phase and are already being implemented in real-world settings. Ideas that are still in the early stages of development will not be considered for this challenge.
We believe that responsible AI has the power to address the development challenges facing Africa. Through the AI4D program, which is backed by the International Development Research Centre of Canada and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK government, we aim to create AI ecosystems that are safe, inclusive, and ethical. Our goal is to empower individuals to develop solutions that can drive progress on important development issues while also mitigating any potential risks associated with AI technology.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants include the following:
- Individual researchers and innovators.
- AI startups and MSMEs/SMEs.
- Research institutions and Universities that are engaged in AI Research and Development.
- Consortia comprising multiple stakeholders working collaboratively on AI solutions.
Benefits
Successful candidates will receive:
- Seed funding of $100,000 USD depending on the stage of development.
- Scaling of Responsible AI solutions (SRAIS) collaboration/technical assistance from a global network of experts.
- Networking opportunities with like-minded innovators, researchers, industry leaders, policy makers and other funders.

Application Process
Applicants should fill the template provided on submittable HERE. The template shall constitute of:
- Applicant profile: Background information, including relevant experience and ability to develop an AI solution.
- Project Concept Note: A concise description of the AI Innovation Scaling, targeted challenges, objectives, implementation plans, and expected outcomes.
- An initial self-administered responsible AI and scaling assessment.
